CHINESE FACIAL FUSION - Friday, July 15th, 2011, 2pm-10pm, 7 CEU's $140.00.
Co-taught by Lolita Knight & Michelle Coffman.

Techniques developed by Dr Lilly Fu, a Chinese doctor, participants will learn 25 pressure points (including 2 on the hands) to help tone, uplift, remove tension, reduce facial lines and increase circulation to the face.

Facial massage can benefit facial tics, Bells Palsy, eye droop, sinus problems, eyesight (near and far) and reduce scars. In addition, external TMJ methods will be taught.

Participants need to bring a thermos (if possible) with hot water, 2 medium size bowls (2 quart size), massage table (one per pair of students if school does not provide), mirror, small container (for 1 tsp. honey), 2 sheets, bolster, 2 washcloths and wear no make-up (prefer no contact lenses).  Students may  remain fully clothed and a Velcro spa towel or halter top enhances the availability of the upper chest for smoother strokes.
Bring a camera to take before and after pictures if you like. Class handouts describe all strokes so no need to take notes; however a music stand, clip board or TV tray is handy to support the notes for easy reading. Participants wear no make-up (prefer no contact lenses).  Class handouts describe all strokes.

Straight finger, pisiform and knuckles on arms, upper chest.

Thumb edge strokes for toes and fingers.

Proper body mechanics are stressed to increase the pressure without straining your hands. Includes some side-lying techniques. Methods for reducing headaches & expanding breathing are incorporated.

MASSAGE TOOLS TO SAVE HANDS – Saturday, July 16th, 2011, 6pm-9pm, 3CEU's, cost $55
Taught by Lolita Knight

Massage therapy is a physically demanding profession.  The careers of many massage therapists are interrupted or terminated because of self-injury, particularly to their wrists and hands.  Self care is crucial in our industry. However, even with proper body mechanics, therapists can still suffer serious hand, wrist and shoulder injuries.

When the “open palm” method with massage tools is used along with proper body mechanics, these types of injuries can be avoided. Examples include the Thumbby Cone which has 5 different surfaces that can create a 8 psi on the point with a 1 psi on the base; the turtle can straddle the spine with 4 points of contact and even the shell ridge can cross fiber rock on arms and legs; the heated Aqua Pad is not simply used as a heating pad, but rather is glided over the body in a tranquil wave like motion and the antler and snail have curved surfaces that makes it very easy to get at hard to reach areas on curved anatomical structures such as the neck and legs.

This hands-on course is designed to help massage therapists achieve deeper penetrating pressure on their clients without exerting more force with their own hands.  After a variety of tools are introduced and proper non-grip  handling is demonstrated, students then experiment with them, giving and receiving massage.

The goal is for you to have less muscular discomfort after using these tools and to find a tool or two to add to your massage offerings to further benefit your clients and enhance your business.

This is a fun, adventurous and creative class. You are encouraged additionally to bring your own tools to learn how to properly handle and “not grip” them to avoid self injury when using a massage tool. Please bring 2 sheets, massage oil or cream, face cradle covers, bolsters and a pillow case.

MASSAGE MARKETING STRATEGIES - July 17th, 2011, 6-8pm 2 CEU's, $40
Taught by Lolita Knight

Why do I feel confident to offer a marketing course?  Quite simply I am a successful massage therapist with 5 years of part time and 30 years of full time experience.  Additionally, I was a massage director of various massage facilities.  At one time we had eight therapists on staff and normally completed 80-100 massages a week with our top week at 126.
Having lost thousands of dollars to marketing that failed, I learned the hard way what does and doesn't work.  You have the advantage of learning from my mistakes.
Discover the best place to put your marketing dollar and most importantly feel positive about selling your great product—relief from pain and stress.

ENERGY FIELD MANIPULATION -  Sun, July 17th, 2011, 8am-5pm, 8 CEU's, $160
Taught by Lolita Knight

Magnetic Field Balancing: This technique is simple to learn and it does not involve any physical touch. Rather it utilizes the energy field that extends up to 2 inches beyond the skin. This field becomes unbalanced with illness, stress or injury. Students will learn how to identify the imbalances that can be felt in their own hands as tingling, cold, heat, heaviness or vacuum.

Therapists will then learn how to use their hands as a focus over the client's body to gently manipulate the body's energy field back to a state of balance and health.

Crystal Polarity: In addition, Crystal Polarity will be taught and this method is more complex and uses crystals to realign the magnetic fields.  Lolita will have crystals available for class use and they may be purchased for $5.

Lolita has utilized both of these methods for over 30 years and finds them very effective, while adding another dimension to her practice. “Energy Field Manipulation” features both of these methods.

Comments from her recent class: From Barbara Kilzer, St Elmo, Illinois

Just a couple stories to tell:  Mom has had no more back pain-just stiffness.  Mark (her husband) went most of the day without ringing in his ears (that has almost been constant for about 2 years now) & his pain in his foot was gone until he was on his way home from work.  It normally hurts all day at work being on his feet.  Brant (her son) didn't cough all night last night!! I have had more clarity and energy!!  (Barb is suffering from Lyme disease and has been continuously tired.) Thanks Lolita!

  • Lolita Knight, Instructor
  • 3 CE Hours     $65

Lolita Knight, with over 30 years of a full time massage career has developed a whole new way of providing deep relaxation massage from experiences with island massage from Fiji and Tonga.  Strokes are completed using the hands, finger tips and forearm.  As the title suggests, while this is a soft touch it is  not a mindless “fluff” massage.

There are 8 different aspects of Soft Touch Islands Massage.  Below are listed a few stroke samples to give you an idea of the class offerings.

1.     Random plucking with thumbs and fingertips coming together.  Have most strokes be a light touch including a few touches with medium pressure

2.     Change the pressure while adding slight pauses via "eye of the hurricane" stroke. Next vary sizes keeping the odd slight haphazard pause.

3.     Massage with upward circles (small, large and tiny) or upward and outward circles or downward and inward, etc.  When feeling confident, have one hand massaging differently than the other.

4.     Lightly stroke half moon movements with one hand following a circle with the other hand. The full circle hand stays on the body with moving circles while the half moon stroke leaves the body.  The half moon then touches a different part of the body than where the full circle was made.

Why all the variances to strokes, pressure, direction and style?  Quite simply, when the client stops using their brain to figure out where your hands are going to next, the brain shuts off and then the client can totally feel the strokes achieving a higher sense of relaxation.  The addition of sound effects brings attention to the strokes and the pauses encourage letting go of stress.

Testimonials: Christa who has received hundreds of massages reported “this is the first massage I have ever had where I totally relaxed for the entire massage. Normally I feel that pain will happen and I have to guard against that.  Terri was blissed out and said “Very early on in the massage I LET GO and feel more relaxed and relaxed in a different way.  For me to let go is not normal.  I am a control freak. As I relaxed I saw purple boxes. I want o have this kind of massage again.  Mark said “It feels like 4 hands are massaging me. The lack of the anticipation of the next stroke allowed me to achieve a deeper state of relaxation.”

So for a totally blissful mind/body relaxation massage --
go to the Islands with Soft Touch Islands Massage.

Students are to bring: 2 sheets (one flannel if possible for sound effects to the massage), face cradle cover, bolster or pillow and if the venue does not supply a massage table we need 1 table per 2 students.

It actually feels better being totally covered with a sheet and either having no or little clothing on or being fully clothed with clothing being free of zippers, belts,  buttons, with  no bras. Tight, but comfortable clothing is better than loose clothing. The goal is for a smooth stroke over the top of the sheet. However, wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

And bring a sense of fun and adventure.

Indian Head Massage for
Chair and Table

July 29, 2011   Friday 1 pm to 10 pm

8 CE contact hours $175

Indian Head Massage is based on an ancient Indian healing system called Ayurveda.  This massage technique has been practiced for over a thousand years.  The massage is calming, yet revitalizing working on the upper back, neck, shoulder, face and scalp.

Indian Head Massage can help eyestrain, headaches, improve concentration (by improving blood flow), boost hair health, relieve shoulder tension, increase neck mobility, calm the mind and ease emotional stress

This massage is given while the client is fully clothed sitting in a chair or may be added to a table massage (with oil for arms, shoulders, neck and upper back – optional oil for scalp and face). As far as Lolita knows, she is the only one who has created Indian Head Massage strokes for the table as the tradition is only for sitting in a chair.  She did this as numerous students asked for table adaptations

Pressure points are stimulated during the massage. Oil is optional for the scalp massage for both chair and table techniques.  Lolita will have organic Ayurveda herbal scalp oil from Solavedi for the class.

Learn a method that will totally  “ bliss out”  your clients while giving them gentle relief from physical ailments. Great to add to a regular office chair massage, for geriatric clients confined to a wheelchair -- plus learn extra creative and blissful strokes for your table massage.
